Forums?
Candidates often list forum dates, or other dates or events associated with their campaigns. So why don’t I?
For starters, I don’t do forums. I have in the past, but I learned my lesson. Every campaign forum I’ve attended was shamelessly rigged and manipulated. In addition, they’re very poorly attended—and half the people in the audience are generally establishment operatives.
In short, forums are jokes.
Which isn’t to say I don’t believe in forums. In fact, I think political forums are a vital part of democracy. It’s sad they’ve become so perverted. I simply decided that I could better spend my time working on my campaign than attend some forum sponsored by some corrupt local lawfirm (yes, political forums here in Seattle are now typically sponsored by a variety of organizations, including lawfirms) where candidates are given two minutes to respond to one or two lame questions.
Nor am I planning any special events related to my campaign. I’m simply going to let the voters know about my ideas and track record via my websites. I know, there are still many voters who stupidly get all their campaign news from the media. What can I say?
I’d like to say, “It’s their loss.” Unfortunately, we all lose out. After all, stupid people voted for George W. Bush, Governors Gary Locke and Christine Gregoire and Seattle Mayor Greg Nickels. (In fairness, virtually all their opponents were corrupt, too.)
Anyway, the only solution is for YOU to get involved and encourage your friends and colleagues to explore all the candidates’ websites.
E pluribus unum,
