Americans can boast that every new generation of children has been better off than their parents. Though that claim may not be 100% accurate, our nation has steadily grown in power and wealth.

As a baby boomer, I was king of the hill. I grew up in West Dakota during the 1960’s, when the world still seemed a beautiful place. In fact, those were turbulent times; it was an era of protests for civil rights and the environment and against the war in Vietnam.

Yet that’s part of what made the 1960’s so special. People CARED. They weren’t paralyzed by apathy and greed. Compare that to the liberal cowards who went into hiding after the terrorist attacks of 9/11...or the right-wing cowards who cowered behind George W. Bush as he raped America.

The results are obvious. America has become a reviled stooge on the world stage. Our schools are going down the toilet with the economy. The environment is going to Hell even here in Washington state, which was once a bastion of environmentalism. (By the way, did you know that Terry Bergeson played a major role in the decline of the spotted owl? That’s one of many stories I still haven’t found time to relate.)

If times are tough for adults, how are children faring? This article just skims the surface: Back to school: Shaky economy hits kids (Libby Quaid, Townhall.com, August 18, 2008). As a former employee of the Seattle School District and a political activist, I can tell you that it’s much, much worse than that.

So this Superintendent of Public Instruction campaign represents yet another crushing loss for the children the Democrats and Seattle liberals claim to care so much about. One might say it represents another victory for pedophiles. Yet I knew Terry Bergeson would get reappointed from the beginning, so how can I complain?

Victory

I’m not stupid. I don’t believe in lost causes. In fact, I filed as a candidate in my sixth election campaign with certain goals in mind, and I accomplished them. Since every cloud has a silver lining, I’ve dedicated this page to chronicling the victories everyone who voted for me can be proud of. They may seem tiny, insignificant, maybe even ridiculous, but all revolutions have to start somewhere.

So, listed below are ten victories I hope will offer solace to the small percentage of voters who voted for me, only to be overwhelmed once again by the stupid majority.

1. I didn’t give up.

Having run for office five times before, I could have just said “Screw it” and thrown in the towel. But I didn’t.

I knew the election would be a total fraud, shamelessly manipulated by the media and other corporate interests. Still, I jumped in head first in an effort to both stir things up and document our increasingly corrupt electoral system.

I’d say I succeeded (with the help of an army of media whores and corrupt unions).

2. YOU didn’t give up.

Holding an election in the middle of the summer vacation season is a brilliant way to persuade people to vote - not. That’s precisely why our government misrepresentatives changed the voting date. (For first-time voters, the primary election was held in mid-September up through 2007.)

Still, thousands of people did vote. The overwhelming majority were clueless dumbasses. But the approximately 3.7% who voted for me prove there’s still intelligent life out there. More important, it proves some people still care.

(Note: I know it sounds shamelessly arrogant to claim that the intelligent voters are those who voted for me. In fact, I’d love to credit people who chose other good candidates over Terry Bergeson and Randy Dorn. Unfortunately, there were no other good candidates.)

3. Hugo Chávez

I probably did more than anyone in the Pacific Northwest to publicize and support Venezuelan President Hugo Chávez. My statement in the Voters’ Pamphlet begins with the words “Viva Chávez!” I also discussed Chávez in my televised Video Voters’ Guide speech.

In addition, I launched the website Viva-Chavez.com, along with some related blogs and social networking groups.

To counteract an insulting definition posted on Urban Dictionary, I even created my own definition. On election day, it was tied 35-35, pretty impressive in an era when most liberals are too lazy to even click thumbs-up icons.

Hugo Chavez (Urban Dictionary)

That no member of Chávez’ administration even contacted me is of little importance. I never really expected Chávez to support some unknown running for an education post in one of fifty states.

Yet I still benefitted from Chávez’ name. It gave me a little recognition, and several media whores showed their true colors by insulting Chávez.

4. Socialism

Liberals have been so beaten down by the corporate media and conservative hordes many are afraid to even mention othe word SOCIALISM.

Well, how the Hell are we going to generate interest in nationalizing Exxon or holding Microsoft accountable if we can’t even mention socialism? For crying out loud, it’s no more an obscenity than capitalism.

In fact, I didn’t include the word socialism in my statement in the Voters’ Pamphlet for lack of space. But I did hint at it, and I discussed it in my televised Video Voters’ Guide speech and on my campaign website.

5. Seattle Mafia

Pardon the arrogance, but I think my Seattle Mafia campaign is simply brilliant in its simplicity. Rather than write volumes about the corruption that is rampant in Seattle, why not just give it a catchy name?

OK, so I’m still working on the volume. But, in the meantime, I dubbed my campaign Blomstrom vs The Seattle Mafia and designated www.seattle-mafia.org my campaign website. I also offered a link to a definition I posted on the website Urban Dictionary and invited visitors to give it a thumbs up.

A day or two before the election, the vote was 100-150, which I think is rather impressive.

Seattle Mafia (Urban Dictionary)

The first definition above was written by someone else. If he or she was trying to shoot me down, it was a clumsy attempt. In fact, that definition complements my definintion.

The icing on the cake: The bad gusy are probably frothing at the mouth trying to brainstorm a clever definition that neutralizes my definition.

I’m waiting.

6. Bill Gates

I used my campaign to ramp up my war against Bill Gates & Co. During my campaign I launched a new website, Billysoft.org and created some related blogs and social networking groups. I also wrote an article about Bill Gates as a pioneering contributor to Google’s new knol project.

As usual, I attacked Bill Gates in my statement in the Voters’ Pamphlet and attacked him again in my televised Video Voters’ Guide speech.

7. The media indicted themselves.

Has media corruption worsened since I first ran for public office, or had the media already hit rock bottom in 1999? My observations suggest they’ve managed to dig themselves an even deeper hole.

One big change: blogs. Blogs are the in thing, and the media have enlisted them in their war against the truth.

Blogs associated with online newspapers are often hosted by private citizens - just ordinary parents and teachers according to their bios. But don’t be fooled; these people are media whores.

Take the Seattle Post-Intelligencer’s Denise Gonzalez-Walker - please. In State primary in a week (and a day)! (August 11, 2008) this media slut writes, “Here’s a link to the online voter's guide, where you can find information on all six candidates.”

But why bother visiting their websites when Denise tells you who to vote for?

“Incumbent Terry Bergeson and challenger Randy Dorn have both collected a lot of endorsements, and are seen as the primary contenders for the position.

“You probably can guess who I’m rooting for, given my lack of love for how the WASL is currently used.”

Well, that pretty much narrows it down to Rando Dorn, doesn’t it? But just for good measure, Denise writes,

“Randy Dorn, is both well-qualified and backed by an array of community members, legislators and organizations that rivals Bergeson’s endorsements.

“It’s not my business to tell anyone how to vote [yeah, right], but I would encourage you to carefully check out the all the candidates and take the time to vote in next Tuesday’s primary election.”

After I began posting on her blog and stirring things up, Denise shut it down for comments - but not before I learned that the civility police have added sleaze to their list of unacceptable words.

I’m working on a much larger study of media corruption during the 2008 Superintendent of Public Instruction race. I don’t know when it will be finished; hopefully in a few days, though it could be weeks.

In the meantime, I’m tentatively awarding my Campaign 2008 Media Whore award to Chris Mulick and the Campaign 2008 Pedophile Pamphlet award to the newspaper he writes for, the Tri-City Herald.

One of the first Campaign 2008 articles that mentioned me (that I’m aware of) was written by Mulick. I can’t remember the details; the article is apparently no longer online - and it isn’t hard to understand why. Mulick sounded like a fourth grader in his childish attempts to insult me. On some of my websites, I refer to myself as the “webranger,” rather than webmaster. Mulick apparently thinks that’s a sign of insanity. (I’d like to hear from anyone who can send me any details, especially the article’s title and date of publication, so I can track down a copy of the original.)

Mulick ended the campaign with another hit piece - Who last-minute voters won’t be voting for (August 19, 2008). The article consists of little more than photos of gubernatorial candidate Mohammad Hasan Said and yours truly, with a little text emphasizing my “menacing” appearance. For good measure, they apparently doctored my photo, making me look quite pale.

Of course, the Tri-City Herald also campaign heavily for native whore...er, native son...Rich Semler until that sleazebag dropped out of the race, after which it switched its allegiance to union whore Randy Dorn.

Incidentally, the Tri-City Herald is owned by McClatchy Co., the nation’s second-largest media company. McClatchy also owns the Tacoma News Tribune, The Olympian and the Bellingham Herald, along with a 49.5 percent stake in the Seattle Times, arguably the most corrupt newspaper in the Pacific Northwest. It’s a family of newspapers all pedophiles ought to adore.

8. Stupid voters punished themselves.

I’m a big believer in accountability, and it became apparent to me long ago that we can’t blame all our problems on corrupt government. In fact, the greatest enablers of government corruption are apathy and stupidity.

In this spirit, I take a wicked and somewhat perverse delight in watching my fellow citizens torch themselves. All the dumbasses who voted for Bergeson-Dorn or the three challengers who didn’t discuss the issues are going to find themselves struggling ever harder to survive in a toubled economy while being screwed by an ever more powerful Education Mafia.

To all the stupid Seattle liberals who are outraged by ever rising property taxes (which are largely funneled to the corrupt Seattle School Board), I say “I feel your pain.”

9. I expanded my horizons.

I abandoned my PC for a Mac some time ago, but I wasn’t able to get the software I wanted until last January. My campaign website and related projects (including two new websites) were the first significant project I worked on with my new computing platform.

In addition, I finally entered the world of blogging, also toying with forums, social networking (e.g. Facebook, MySpace, etc.) and similar projects. Sadly, I simply didn’t have sufficient time to really get it together in time for the campaign. But these new tools will see more action in the future.

Reaching out to Hugo Chávez, elevating my war against Bill Gates and adding the Teamsters to my hit list made me a still more rounded activist.

10. My campaign website will fight on.

Most candidates for public office don’t have political websites. All they have is campaign websites, which are typically lame (at best) and only temporary. After the campaign, win or lose, the campaign site vanishes.

My campaign website will remain online as a permanent reference to Campaign 2008, documenting the corruption that proves our government is illegitimate.

E pluribus unum,

David Blomstrom—August 18, 2008 (Last revised Augusst 23, 2008)

Can’t afford to donate money to my campaign? No problem! You can join the team by simply visiting Urban Dictionary > Seattle Mafia and clicking the yellow thumbs up icon Thumbs Up, indicating you agree with my definition. Doing so will help publicize the fact that there IS a Seattle Mafia. If you’re working for the Seattle Mafia and want to click the thumbs down icon Thumbs Down, that’s fine, too. Either way, you’re helping my campaign. :)
